Joshua Lane

This is an ongoing project for us.  We completed the main house for Thanksgiving 2019 and are currently working on a pool, pool house, wine cellar, and barn.  An unbelievable spot along the CT River that we are so fortunate enough to enjoy every day at work.  Many more pics to come as this project develops!

Sather Kitchen

Fully custom design build kitchen for some really awesome clients.  Truly a one of a kind kitchen mixing raw steel elements, reclaimed oak, and top of the line modern appliances.  Not to mention the terrarium on top of the breakfast nook...that turtle is living large!!

Modern Industrial Kitchen

Custom Modern Bathroom

This bathroom was a huge challenge!  This historic 1750's house had to be completely reworked to accommodate the second floor built in washer dryer and the curbless shower with hidden line drain.  We built the teak vanity to accept the vessel sink and added a custom transom window with wave glass above the pocket door for extra character.  The floating toilet with built in cubby above really adds to the modern feel of this once old house!

Custom In Law Apartment

We took a three bay garage and gave it some love...a lot of love!  We used all three bays upstairs and created a space that you might want to move into rather than giving it to your in laws!  Full marble bathroom and a balcony, but the kicker is the hidden rotating bookshelf wall that divides the bedroom from the living space.  Unbelievable project that kept us challenged throughout!

Joshua Lane Kitchen

Open concept kitchen with a massive island!  Walnut table at the end of the island serves as a baker's table.  The countertop becomes the backsplash as the leathered granite countertops turn up the wall.  Integrated sub zero fridge, miele dishwasher, miele wine fridge and Thermador range

Ct River Addition

This was a fun one!  Our clients love their boat so we built a nautical themed sunroom addition complete with custom built teak couches.  A huge slider provides great views of the river and the exterior is finished with a masonry patio and a rain chain rather than a traditional gutter.  

Country Kitchen

We completely gutted the existing kitchen and bumped out the kitchen by eight feet.  We moved around a few interior walls to provide an open floor plan as well as make room for a 9ft walk in pantry!  The concrete countertops came out great and they accent the farm sink and pendant light perfectly.  Shaker style custom cabinets are mixed in with store bought units to add a nice touch without blowing the budget.  By far my favorite part of the build was the walk in pantry with the cookbook built ins.  We had a blast!

Country Kitchen Renovation/Addition

Walnut game room

We took an unfinished basement and turned it into an awesome game room complete with wet bar and custom ping pong table.  Integrated into the cabinetry is a 24" sub zero fridge and a miele dishwasher.

Yale Barn

Right before my daughter was born in 2015 we were lucky enough to land a barn build for the Yale Agricultural Department on their West Campus.  The 18x24 structure serves as an outdoor classroom and a facility for their urban farm.  Can't believe we were chosen for such an amazing project!  Inspiration at every turn during this once in a lifetime build :)

Recording Studio Renovation

We took a run down California style ranch in Chester and completed the renovations for the infamous Dirt Floor Studio!  Reclaimed beams now support the ridge and provide an open floor plan.  Custom steel work, cabinetry, and concrete counters all provide great accents to the amazing music that comes from this space!

Joshua Lane Bathrooms

As part of a much large project we got to remodel all of the existing bathrooms in the house.  It's tough to pick a favorite but I love the basement bath that sports a bluestone floor that runs seamlessly into the shower with a hidden line drain.

Dining room wet bar

We took out a center chimney and made better use of the space with this new built in wet bar.  Hand blown glass uppers courtesy of Jeff P'an studios in Mystic CT.  

Sunroom addition

You could live in this four season sun room!  Copper Mendota fire place, stone floors, vaulted quad hipped ceiling with reclaimed beams...grab a book, an irish coffee, and relax!

Edwards Kitchen

We took this kitchen down to the studs and gave it a total facelift.  The custom hutch on the end of the cabinet run might be my favorite part as it gives the space a distinct personality.  The reclaimed chestnut island top provides another great contrast to the off white inset cabinetry.  Speakers in the ceiling let you crank your tunes or listen to the under cabinet corner tv.  Another fun project and fantastic clients!!

Wee House

After a few too many glasses of wine on New Year's Eve, I promised my soon to be wife that I would build her a tree house on our property.  We woke up the next morning and got to work.  We had all the lumber milled locally...all the doors and windows came from salvage yards, and after six weeks of construction we had a house!  It isn't our full time residence as we have another house on the property but it is the ultimate getaway that fuels our creativity.  "Today is life, tomorrow never comes."

Reclaimed Chestnut Cabinetry

We outfitted this recreational room with a wormy chestnut bar and built in Miele Fridge.  The chestnut made a long trip from South Carolina but now has a new home in Clinton. Inset doors and drawers all with top of the line soft close hardware.  Time for a whiskey!

Dream closet

If only I had a closet this cool!  Each door has it's own LED light that is connected to a magnet switch so the light comes on as soon as the door is opened.  Custom shoe rack and built in bench/laundry storage with a reclaimed walnut top. 

Antiqued Walnut Tables

We put the finishing touches on an in law apartment that we remodeled by making custom black walnut tables to match the space.  The main writing desk is a mix of the new and the old with the top made out of locally harvested walnut slabs while the framing and the legs are from an old resawn walnut beam.  We antiqued the edges on the tops using a couple different techniques and finished all the tables with a furniture wax that gives it a satin luster.  Happy client happy carpenter!

Tiny house

We built this wee cabin for one of our clients who wanted a place to get away.  We had all the wood milled locally and the simplicity of the structure allowed us to build it in just under six days.  All of the windows and doors were salvaged from previous job sites...we hate throwing stuff away!  The floor joists for the loft were all salvaged from an old barn on the property, it was great to find something so old and give it new life!

Timber Frame Horse Cover Barn

This simple timber frame in Lyme provides cover for the horses when the inclement weather rolls in.  We had an absolute blast and perfect weather for this one.  All of the timbers were milled locally...the siding was purchased at a local lumber yard and we fit nearly all of it on top of my Volvo 240!

Built in Day Bed

This shaker style day bed with built in closet was a super fun challenge.  The space is actually a garage bay that we closed off, added stairs, and built an in law apartment above.  The windows in the day bed are the existing garage door windows which then preserve the aesthetic from the exterior of the house.  

Rotating bookshelf wall

One of the most fun pieces we have ever gotten to build!  This unique design lets you watch tv from the office or the bedroom...brilliant!  Thanks to windmill technology you can spin this 1000 rotations per minute and the tv won't even go blurry!

Sliding Barn Door

We used 8/4 reclaimed oak for the frame and then inserted barnboard into a routed channel to provide this unique look.  Mortise and Tenon joints on the Oak keep with the old school feel and the hardware is a perfect match.

Brooklyn Bar Tables

We were commissioned to build some rustic industrial tables for a new bar in Brooklyn.  The tops are reclaimed oak flooring and compliment the custom steel bases.  Lot's of work to bring these old boards back to life but they have now found a new home in the city!

Reclaimed Wall cladding

Really fun to take a driveway full of salvaged wood and create something highly unique.  The wall cladding in this pool room consists of old barn board from all over new england.  Each piece has unique character which gives this space a truly one of a kind feel.

Marble Bathroom

This Carrara marble bathroom was part of a larger in law apt build that we completed in Chester CT.  The bathroom had many design challenges because of the hipped roof above.  It features a pocket door that dives into the roof line, herringbone patterned subway tile, custom glass accents and a floating solid carrara bench.  Many thanks to Solomon Clark our tile guy!

Curly Maple Cradle

My wife and I built this as a gift for our soon to be niece.  The legs were a challenge but the wine we drank during the build kept it fun!  My wife drew all the cutouts as I can do practically nothing with a pencil!

Reclaimed Oak and Chestnut Coffee Table

I found a piece of oak at a salvage yard that looked terrible!  Terrible to most people anyways...I love the holes, the patina, and the hard years it has endured.  I used some reclaimed chestnut framing for the base.  Simple but classic design.

Mahogany Horse Tack Box

This was built for one lucky horse down in Virginia!  Solid Mahogany with brass accents.  Hard to believe it will be living out its life in a barn holding horse brushes!  Very fun and challenging piece to build.

Cedar Deck

This is a huge deck!  20x35 with wrap around stairs and two built in planters.  We used 5/4 knotty cedar decking and clear cedar for the railings and framing for the built in bench.  This project is a great example of how adding a few custom touches can really add a warm feeling to a very large space. 

Concrete Countertops

Concrete counters have a rustic handmade quality that comes from lots of hard work!!  It is an amazing process to take concrete, sand, and water and turn it into a finished product that has the texture of marble or granite.  It is roughly a two week process.  After templating the countertops, we then make molds, pour the concrete and then let them cure for ten days.  After the curing process we have three days of polishing and grouting before installation.  The process is dirty but extremely rewarding!

Hipped Front Porch

The front of this house was begging for a front porch!  We built a classic hipped roof.  The deck is tongue and groove fir and the post wraps class it up a bit.  Proportionally it fits the house great and breaks up the tall run of siding and windows.

White Oak Vanity

Had a blast building this custom full overlay vanity.  The base is solid white oak and the top is a honed marble from Vermont.  The hardware and fixtures really come together to give this piece a unique feel.

Modern Herringbone unit

This 8'x7' unit was custom built for a recording studio next to the New York Stock Exchange.  We thought the build was going to be a challenge...that was until we had to get it to the 20th floor!  Push to open hardware gives this monster unit a very modern feel.

Walk in Pantry

While rearranging some interior walls we decided to build a 9ft walk in pantry.  Great use of space by incorporating a built in bookshelf just for cookbooks!  Bon appetite!

Fairfield Kitchen

This kitchen mixes the old with the new!  Reclaimed wire brushed inset oak cabinetry for the island and butler pantry...painted inset custom cabinets for the main run and appliance locker which features accordian style doors with seeded glass.  Soapstone counters and subway tile backsplash bring it all together!

Teak Vessel Sink Vanity

I absolutely love this piece.  The simplicity of design allows the vessel sink and fixtures to really pop against the grain and color of the teak.  It was an absolute blast to build and looks fantastic in this full master bath renovation.

New Haven Creative

Reclaimed Pine Coffee Table

I fell in love with the top of this table while sifting through boards at a salvage yard.  The coloring and the texture come from many years of getting beaten by the weather...always nice to find a diamond in the rough!

Baby's First Crib

During this build I couldn't help but think of the baby that was soon to be joining our family.  We ended up having a beautiful baby girl that has forever changed our lives.  She makes us smile every day and each night we put her down in the crib we built for her :)
