Dave Herrle
Founder
For as long as he can remember, Dave had a hard time not being “normal” After graduating from a small liberal arts college he found himself at a desk job, hating every minute of it.
In 2007, a life changing trip hiking the entirety of the Appalachian Trail put things in perspective. It was the gut check in life he needed and was happy to find it when he was only 27 years old. His time in the woods gave him perspective on the benefits of simplicity and there he promised himself he wouldn’t spend a lifetime doing a job he didn’t enjoy
Dave is grateful for the opportunity this community has given him and his team. The opportunity to pay the bills while doing something he is passionate about is one of the greatest gifts he has found in life. And he is always supported by his wife, Kim, and two daughters, Vera and Lucy.
Adam Pipkin
Project Manager
Adam brings over 20 years of experience in residential home building to the Herrle team. In this time, he has always enjoyed utilizing creative problem solving as well as the tangible results of hard work. This passion was taken to new heights when he and Dave began working together at the beginnings of Herrle Custom Homes.
He currently finds renewed enthusiasm in the endless opportunity for growth and learning available in each new project. Every time we take on a new build at Herrle Custom Homes, Adam enjoys finding the unique qualities of that build and designing the specialized path required to bring the dream into reality.
Doug Garner
Millwork Extraordinaire
Doug’s passion for woodworking was sparked at the age of 10 when he began working alongside his father. Spending weekends and summers honing his skills, he quickly became a well-rounded trim carpenter and stair builder by 16. At just 18, he took the leap and opened his own mill workshop. Over the past 31 years, he has dedicated himself to the craft, completing numerous kitchen builds and complex millwork projects. Now, Doug continues to push the boundaries of woodworking, striving to enhance design, fabrication, and efficiency.
Will Cooley
Timber Frame Master
Born and raised in Lyme, will found himself in Oregon engaged in a natural building course, which sparked his interest in building, and especially timber framing. Lured back to the beauty and opportunity of building and growing his skills in Lyme, Will started working with the Herrle crew in 2015.
Since then Will has honed his skills in custom cabinetry, and designing and cutting timber frame structures. He loves the juxtaposition of the two skillsets. While they both require attention to detail and precision, one deals mostly with kiln dried 3/4” material; while the other deals with large, green, heavy timbers.
While not at work, you can find will working on his 1850 farmhouse and adjacent barn, getting his hands dirty in the garden, hiking with his dog, watching and playing soccer or enjoying live music.
Gayle Wirtz
CFO
Gayle is an experienced accounting professional, specializing in Bookkeeping & Accounts Payable. She is responsible for all in house accounting, building relationships with local banks, subcontractors, as well as our clients.
All numbers aside and working her “dream job”, she has been married to her husband Paul for EVER and three AMAZING kids later… She enjoys the outdoors, hiking, boating, camping and of course spending much treasured time with her family.
Paul Wirtz
Technology Guru
As a key member of our team, Paul assumes a strategic role in the overall direction of the company. Paul is also responsible for financial aspects of the company operations including; financial forecasting, strategic planning, compliance, and project accounting.
Additionally, Paul manages all of Herrle Custom Homes technology, keeping things up and running and implementing new technology to support the company’s operations.
Alexa Ashton
Cameraman
Trained and practicing as an Architectural Designer, Alexa met the Herrle team on site during a few builds together.
Hanging out on the construction site, Alexa found a keen interest in documenting the construction process through film. Highlighting the craftsmanship, precision and teamwork that goes into each project, Alexa strives to create compelling visual narratives that capture both the architecture and story behind every building. To showcase the beauty of the construction process itself.
Alexa handles all things visual at Herrle Custom Homes and really enjoys being apart of a team of exceptional craftsmen.
